Movies for the Holiday Season

After the bustling busy time leading up to the holiday season, I am looking forward to relaxing and seeing a few movies. I'm particularly looking forward to:

Haneke's The White Balloon -opens on December 30 at Film Forum.
(Here is a aTribeca Features interview with Haneke for some background.)

The Back by Demand film series at the Film Society of Lincoln Center--runs December 26-31. Includes Pather Panchali (Sat. Dec. 26 and Monday December 28)

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari at MOMA on December 26 (part of the Tim Burton Film Series)

Herzog's My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done at IFC Center (closes December 29)

And finally, and Empty Pockets Alert: Monday December 28 at the New York Public Library Jefferson Market Branch -- My Architect: A Son's Journey. This is part of a "Tortured Artists on Film" movie series. Very nice!

More Movies for the Weekend of 11/20

Roastier and Toastier: Sweater Movies at Cafe Grumpy. I wish I had know about this film series earlier. Tonight's movie is The Ice Storm. One of my favorite movies from the '90s.
And of course, Almodovar's latest film, Broken Embraces opens this weekend. It should be a great weekend.

Heads Up - Kurosawa and Movies for the weekend

January will be here before you know it. I'm going to beat the post-holiday blues with Kurosawa at the Film Forum. I can't wait. I'm especially looking forward to Throne of Blood.

As for this weekend, I'm looking forward to seeing La Danse and 2012 because I am a sucker for both dance movies and disaster movies.
