After the bustling busy time leading up to the holiday season, I am looking forward to relaxing and seeing a few movies. I'm particularly looking forward to:
Haneke's The White Balloon -opens on December 30 at Film Forum.
(Here is a aTribeca Features interview with Haneke for some background.)
The Back by Demand film series at the Film Society of Lincoln Center--runs December 26-31. Includes Pather Panchali (Sat. Dec. 26 and Monday December 28)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari at MOMA on December 26 (part of the Tim Burton Film Series)
Herzog's My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done at IFC Center (closes December 29)
And finally, and Empty Pockets Alert: Monday December 28 at the New York Public Library Jefferson Market Branch -- My Architect: A Son's Journey. This is part of a "Tortured Artists on Film" movie series. Very nice!
