Movies for the week of May 18

I've been reading about Cannes lately and wondering what good movie-going the future holds. According to the article, we can look forward to seeing a new Jane Campion film about John Keats. I look forward to it.

In the meantime, I'd like to see Adoration the new Atom Egoyan movie. Ok, it does have a lot of potential for awful, but then again....Atom Egoyan?! He is awesome. You can see it this week at the Landmark Sunshine.

Empty Pockets Alert:

We all know how much I love Barbara Stanwyck—my favorite wisecracking lady hero. So you can imagine my delight with this “empty pockets” event: the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts will be screening Ball of Fire (also known as The Professor and the Burlesque Queen”) on 5/19 at 2:30 pm. Howard Hawkes, Barbara Stanwyck, burlesque and a group of underground professors...what more could you ask for?

  2. Yasmine, have you gone to any of the "cultural" institutes for film? Goethe Institute, Japan Society, etc.? This caught my eye:

  3. Thanks for your comments, Leila. To answer your questions:
    1) The Sweet Hereafter.
    2) I have not yet gone to any of the cultural institutes for film. It's on my list of things to do.

  5. I cannot believe that Yasmine liked Adoration. I had a serious wager that you would not like it. It just goes to show you may still have a few tricks up your sleeve. I thought Adoration was great.
